This is one of those things you wished internet had in batches. The web-site http://www.publicliterature.org/ provides a fair amount of e-books, totally free-of-charge.

They offer a variety of titles from different authors, from Shakespeare to Freud to Religious texts. The books can be read online or if you prefer, you can download the .PDF or .TXT files and read them whenever you feel like doing so.

It’s 100% legal, as those are all public domain publications (hence the name “Public Literature”).
Oh, and for those of you who are too lazy to read, they also have audio files for some of the books, so you can simply listen to a good book in your i-Pod instead of those crappy .mp3 you grew tired of
